The ownership were very, very patient with the way the Sixers were rebuilt. Hard to imagine that they would be impatient with the Devils, so probably more to do with losing trust in Ray's vision for the team, born out by this disaster of a season.

Sort of related, but LeBrun just put out a new article on the athletic and he shut down the reports of us shopping Palms, saying that Shero was telling teams he wasnt interested in talking trades in regards to him. So theres that

Devils needed to show some type of improvement this year and haven't (and owners did add salary this year with Subban, Simmons and Gusev), can't blame the owners for this. Shero might of made our prospect pool better (couldn't get worse under Lou) but both NHL and AHL teams stink (even though they are both playing better of late).

I heard he wasn't shopping him like Hall but he was taking calls. Again not sure who to believe.

This scares me a little.

In firing Hynes I felt confident the team could find a better head coach. And frankly they can do that fairly easily.

In firing Ray Ray, I don't feel that way. Shero was a great horse trader and that alone is a hard skill to find. PK for example might not have worked out but we didn't give up much for him. I always feel trades are best evaluated at the time they happen because nobody has a crystal ball; and the time it was generally considered a quality move.

Plus I think the D is a disaster because our defensive system isn't good. That's on Nasreddine (and him under Hynes previously). Vat's is the only guy who's come in and seems to have held up playing in this poop show and even that is debatable.

But the point is who knows how our interim GM is going to do. And while I love Marty Brodeur being a great goalie doesn't make you a great businessman. So he's an unproven commodity. This team needs professional management and coaching. Not guys learning on the job.

It's hard to trust ownership that bought the team for the stadium and has been running one of the smaller payrolls in the league for several years now. Nobody is going to come out and tell you they don't want to win. The question is are you really willing to do what it takes to get there.

Frankly the stadium makes an assload of money so Apollo group shouldn't be to tight with the purse strings.... but these are professional businessmen and who knows how they really feel.

I was wondering if maybe Marty would get a much bigger role. Why else would he be at the press conference. While I love that they hire former players, especially Devils legends, idk if that would be the right move. Who knows though. I'm kinda nervous about who they hire as GM and coach.

Remember that this was a "mutual" move, not a firing so Ray might of said if I can't do what I want I'm out type of move. Again I'm not sure what exactly took place but both sides decided it was best to move on.

It looks like Marty and Fitz are on the same page, they both seemed very excited and even hug each other after the win yesterday. Maybe there was some differences in the upper hierarchy with the Devils and ownership took a side.

If Sakic and Yzerman can be great GMs I don't see why Marty can't be. It's not always a sure thing but he isn't too green after some time with St. Louis.

Yeah, idk about that. Anything’s possible.
Ray always seemed pretty reasonable to me but he was clearly very upset about firing Hynes and the Taylor Hall ‘no offered contract’ thing makes me wonder what’s really going on.

Seems kinda Hextall-esq.

Will make the trade deadline a little interesting, wonder if it other GM's will try to fleece them

Wonder what happens with the draft, will they go for safe picks or be aggressive and hope for a homerun

Seems to me like an opportunity for Marty to get his feet wet before taking over as GM down the road.

That draft record.....woof.

Hard to justify just how bad his first rounders have been, and if you go back to Pittsburgh it becomes even worse.

Pretty sure Brodeur has said he doesn't want to be a GM. He compared it to being a player again, as far as the day to day schedule grind goes, which isn't what he wants to do because of family, etc.

Didn't know this. Thanks.

I'm hopeful this opens up an opportunity for Scott Stevens. He's a great defensive coach and might be the one unproven head coach I wouldn't mind gambling on.

There's always the possibility that this is something not related to the product on the ice. There's been a lot of that going around the NHL lately. I hope that's not it but you never know.

Stevens hasn't been actively coaching though, which is a problem.

USELESS FACT OF THE DAY:

After Turner Stevenson joined the Devils in 2000-2001 he use to tease Martin Brodeur that he was selected eight spots ahead of him in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. He'd tell Marty he was better then him then and still was!

A problem like you think he's not prepared to coach in this league or a problem like maybe that ship has sailed?

I don't think he wants to coach right now from everything I read or heard though I think he's capable.
